GigTag

Gig, band and website tools

BookLive runs the booking. GigTag works the room.

At a wedding or a private party you need two things from the room: a full dance floor tonight and another booking from someone who was there. GigTag gives every guest one code to scan for song requests, your links and a booking enquiry form. If you were looking at BookLive for the admin, this is the part that happens on stage.

Why GigTag

What GigTag adds to a BookLive act's stage

BookLive is built for the booking: the contract, the deposit, the players. GigTag is built for the three hours you are actually playing. It gives a room of guests one scan to request, follow and enquire, with one printed tag and nothing for anyone to install. An events band wants both, and the tag is the part the guests see.

  1. 1

    Every guest can enquire

Each wedding puts you in front of people planning their own. With GigTag the booking enquiry form is one scan from every seat, on the free plan, with no commission on the booking that follows. BookLive's portal is built for the client who has already hired you. The tag speaks to the ones who have not yet.

  2. 2

    Requests without the shouting

On Pro, guests choose from your song list in their browser, or ask for anything if you open requests. Each one joins a live queue on your phone, so you can see what the dance floor wants and decide. BookLive plans the set with the client beforehand. GigTag listens to the room on the night.

  3. 3

    Nothing for guests to install

A wedding guest will not download an app for one evening. They point their camera at the tag and your page opens in the browser, with no account. That keeps it simple at a family event, where the person asking for a song may be the bride's grandmother.

  4. 4

    A place for every line-up

Function bands go out as a duo one night and a seven-piece the next. On GigTag Pro, more than one act sits on one account, and band members can join the band. BookLive staffs each date from your pool of players. GigTag gives each act a page of its own to show the audience.

  5. 5

    Costs nothing to start

The free plan covers the tag design and print file, your page, links, every gig and the enquiry form for one act. You can print the tag yourself. Pro, with requests and invoices, is £11.99 a month in the UK, AED 30 in the UAE and $15.99 elsewhere. It sits beside whatever you use for admin.

In short

BookLive and GigTag, in four lines

  • BookLive is gig management software for booked events: scheduling, contracts, client payments and set lists.
  • GigTag gives every guest something to scan: requests, your links and your next date, with no app.
  • A booking enquiry form sits one scan away from every guest who is planning an event.
  • Our recommendation: keep your booking system and put a GigTag on the stand at every wedding and party.

The paperwork

GigTag

Keep BookLive for contracts. GigTag adds simple invoices on Pro.

GigTag has no contracts. On the Pro plan you can send an invoice in your own design, and the client pays it online.

BookLiveIts site describes contracts built from templates and signed digitally, with deposits and final balances collected from the client through the system.

What guests can do

GigTag

Every guest can scan, not only the client

Any guest can scan the tag to request a song, follow your socials, see your next gig or send a booking enquiry, all in the browser.

BookLiveThe client and anyone they invite can use the client portal to make payments, agree the timeline and adjust the set list for their event.

The song list

Live requests from the room during the set

Your GigTag song list is what the audience chooses requests from. You can also open requests so they may ask for anything.

BookLiveIts set list builder and music library organise your songs with sheet music, lyrics and chord charts, and let you reuse set lists that worked.

Enquiries from guests, with no commission on bookings

GigTag is not a marketplace and does not find clients. It gives the people already watching you a booking enquiry form on your page.

BookLiveIts site describes the Gig Vault, a way to discover and connect with venues and event planners, and a review collector for after each performance.

Your band members

Members join the band, several acts on Pro

Band members can join the band on GigTag, and on Pro one account can hold more than one act, such as a duo and a full band.

BookLive or GigTag

Where GigTag is different from BookLive

  1. The client versus the crowd

BookLive's client portal is for the person who hired you: the couple, the planner, the office manager. GigTag's page is for everyone else at the event. A guest scans the tag on your mic stand and your page opens in their browser, with no app and no account. They can request a song, follow your socials or see where you play next. One tool serves the booker, the other serves the room.

  2. Where the next booking comes from

At a wedding or a corporate night, somebody in the audience is usually planning an event of their own. With GigTag they scan your tag and send a booking enquiry from their table, while you are still playing. It lands in your GigTag account for you to answer. What happens after that, the contract, the deposit, the staffing, is exactly the work BookLive is built to handle.

  3. Requests during the set itself

BookLive lets a client shape the set list before the event through its portal. GigTag handles what happens once you are on stage. On the Pro plan, guests request songs from your song list, or anything at all if you open requests, and they arrive in a live queue on your phone. You decide what gets played. Nothing needs to be planned in advance.

A night with GigTag

A wedding band's Saturday with GigTag

You are set up in the corner of a marquee, and the first dance is done. The tag on your mic stand carries your band's design and one QR code. Between songs you tell the room they can scan it to ask for a song. Guests hold up their phones, your page opens in the browser, and nobody has to download anything. On Pro, requests start to appear in the live queue on the phone beside your pedalboard. You pick the ones that suit the dance floor and keep the set moving.

During the buffet a guest scans the tag again, this time for the booking enquiry form. Their own wedding is next summer and they would like the same band. The enquiry is waiting in your GigTag account when you load out. Others have followed your socials or saved your next public gig to their calendar. On Monday you answer the enquiry from the website. The tag goes back in the case, ready for next Saturday, with the same code it had this week.

About BookLive

What is BookLive?

BookLive describes itself as an all-in-one gig management platform for musicians, bands and performers. Its site says it suits any size of act, from soloists to large ensembles. The idea is to put booking, scheduling, contracts and payment collection in one system, in place of the email threads, phone calls and separate apps that most working acts juggle. It also includes a set list builder and a music library, so the songs sit beside the bookings.

In practice an act keeps its upcoming performances on one dashboard, sends staffing requests to its musicians, and builds contracts from templates for clients to sign digitally. Deposits and final balances are collected through the system. Clients get a portal where they can pay, talk through the details and, if you allow it, shape the set list for their event. After the gig it can ask them for a review.

How BookLive works

  1. 1

Set up your act. You add your act, your musicians and your song library. Its site describes rosters and line-ups for different cities or kinds of performance, so a small group and a large ensemble can be managed side by side.

  2. 2

Book and contract the client. When a client confirms, you create a contract from a template and send it for a digital signature. The gig then appears on your dashboard with your other performances, which helps you avoid double bookings.

  3. 3

Staff the gig. You send staffing requests to your musicians from the booking. Its site describes automatic scheduling that moves on to the next available player when someone is unavailable for the date.

  4. 4

Collect payment and plan. Deposits and final balances are collected through the system, with reminders to the client. In the client portal they can pay, agree the timeline and, if you allow it, choose songs for the event.

Who BookLive is for

  • Wedding and function bands. Acts whose year is built on weddings and private parties, with a contract, a deposit and a timeline for every date. Its site describes the client portal as a place where couples and planners can pay and help shape the music for their event.

  • Bandleaders with a pool of players. Leaders who send out several line-ups and need to fill each seat. The automatic musician scheduling described on its site sends requests to players and moves down the list, which spares the leader a round of messages for every date.

  • Soloists and small groups. Solo performers, duos and small ensembles who want their bookings, set lists and sheet music together. Its site says the platform scales from soloists to large ensembles, with a music library that holds lyrics, chord charts and sheet music for each song.

The verdict

GigTag or BookLive: which should you choose?

The bottom line

If you play weddings and private events, put a GigTag on your mic stand. The strongest reason is the simplest: every event you play is full of people who will one day book a band, and the tag lets them ask you before they leave. Keep BookLive, or a system like it, if you need contracts, deposits and staffing handled. The two do different jobs, and a busy events act is well served by using both.

These two do different jobs and sit well side by side. BookLive looks after the booking from first contact to final payment. GigTag looks after the night: the tag on your stand, requests, your next dates and enquiries from guests. A busy events band could run both without overlap, passing enquiries that arrive through GigTag into its usual booking process.

  1. Step 1

    Keep BookLive for the booking

Leave contracts, deposits, staffing and client planning where they are. Nothing about adding a tag changes how you run a confirmed event, and your clients keep using the portal as before.

  2. Step 2

Add the tag to your kit

Design your GigTag, add your song list, links and public gigs, and put the tag on your mic stand at every event. Mention it once from the stage.

  3. Step 3

    Move enquiries across

When a guest's booking enquiry arrives in GigTag, reply to it, then take the client through your usual BookLive process for the contract and the deposit.

Questions

BookLive and GigTag: what people ask

Something else? Ask us. A person reads every message.

Is GigTag better than BookLive for a wedding band?

For the performance itself, GigTag is the one built for it: guests scan the tag, request songs on Pro, follow you and send booking enquiries from their tables. BookLive is built for the admin around the booking. A wedding band does not have to choose. If you only add one thing to your stage this season, though, make it the tag.

What does GigTag do that BookLive does not focus on?

It faces the audience. GigTag's page is for every guest in the room: live song requests, your next public gig, your socials and a booking enquiry form, all opened from one scan in the browser. BookLive's site focuses on the act and its client: scheduling, contracts, payments and planning. GigTag covers the people who are neither.

What is BookLive?

BookLive is a gig management platform for musicians, bands and performers. Its site describes one system for bookings, scheduling musicians, contracts with digital signatures, payment collection, set lists and a client portal. It is aimed at acts of any size that play booked events. For current plans and prices, see its site.

Is GigTag a replacement for BookLive?

No. They do different jobs. BookLive manages the business side of a booking: contracts, payments, staffing and client communication. GigTag is what your audience scans at the gig: a QR tag that opens your page for song requests, your next gigs, your links and a booking enquiry form. Many acts would have a use for both.

Can I use BookLive and GigTag together?

Yes. A guest at your gig scans the GigTag on your mic stand and sends a booking enquiry. You pick it up on the GigTag website or app, then take that client through your normal process in BookLive: contract, deposit and planning. GigTag also has its own invoices on the Pro plan if you prefer to keep small jobs there.

I use BookLive for weddings. What would wedding guests do with a GigTag?

They scan the tag on your mic stand with their phone. Your page opens in the browser, with no app to download and no account to create. From there they can request a song if you are on Pro, follow your socials, see your next gig or send an enquiry about their own event.

Can wedding guests request songs without downloading an app?

Yes. With GigTag, guests scan the QR code on the tag and your page opens in their phone's browser. There is no app and no account. On the Pro plan they can request a song from your song list, or anything if you have opened requests, and you see each request in a live queue.

How do I get more wedding bookings from the gigs I already play?

Make it easy for guests to ask. A GigTag on your mic stand puts a booking enquiry form one scan away, so a guest planning their own event can contact you before the night ends. The enquiry form is on the free plan. GigTag does not find clients for you: it helps you hear from the ones in the room.

Does BookLive handle the contract if a GigTag enquiry turns into a booking?

BookLive's site describes contract templates with digital signatures and payment collection, so a client who first reached you through a GigTag enquiry can be taken through that process like any other. GigTag itself has no contracts. It passes you the enquiry, and on Pro it offers invoices if you want them.

Is BookLive or GigTag the right first step for a new wedding band?

They answer different needs. If your problem is admin, with contracts, deposits and players to organise, start with a tool like BookLive. If your problem is turning each gig into the next one, start with GigTag, whose free plan covers the tag design, your page, links, gigs and the enquiry form for one act.
