Gig, band and website tools

Looking at Prism.fm as a musician? Read this first

When you walk on stage in someone else's venue, you have one set to make the room remember you. GigTag gives that audience a code on your mic stand to follow you, save your next gig and send a booking enquiry, with no app. If you were looking at Prism.fm, that is the venue's toolkit. This is the performer's.

Why GigTag

Why performers choose GigTag, not Prism.fm

Prism is built for the organisations that put shows on: calendars, offers, settlements and finance. GigTag is built for the person the show is about. If you are a musician, it is the one of the two made for your side of the stage, and it begins on a free plan with a tag you can print yourself.

  1. 1

Made for a musician's working life

GigTag assumes you are a solo act, duo or band with gigs to play and an audience to win. You get a tag, a page, your gigs and a booking form, managed from your phone. Prism's tools are built around running rooms and settling shows. For a performer, GigTag is the natural fit.

  2. 2

    Your audience, in any venue

Venues change, and your code does not. The same printed tag works in a theatre, a bar or a marquee, and each crowd that scans it can follow you and save your next gig. That gives you something to carry from room to room: people who know where you are playing next.

  3. 3

A booking form in every seat

Anyone watching can send a booking enquiry from your page, on the free plan, and it comes straight to you. GigTag takes no commission on bookings. In a room that someone else filled, that is a direct route from a good set to your own next date.

  4. 4

Requests when the gig suits them

On Pro, the audience can choose from your song list, and requests arrive in a live queue on your phone. In a bar or at a party that changes the night. At a seated show you may simply leave your own songs on the list. Either way the choice of what to play stays with you.

  5. 5

Free to begin, small to carry

On the free plan you get the tag design and print file, your page, your links, every gig and the enquiry form, for one act. Print it yourself, anywhere, or order it: AED 100 in the UAE, £24.99 in the UK. It is a small tag that lives in your gig bag.

Prism.fm or GigTag

Where GigTag is different from Prism.fm

  1. Opposite sides of the stage

Prism is used by the people who decide what goes on the stage and what it costs. GigTag is used by whoever is standing on it, and by the audience in front. A fan scans the tag on your mic stand and your page opens in their browser: song requests, your next gig, your socials, a booking enquiry form. Nothing to download and no account to make.

  2. Box office or tip jar

Prism works with ticketed shows, deals and settlements, where money moves between promoter, venue and artist. GigTag works at the scale of a hotel lounge or a pub. On Pro, people request songs, and they can tip by card or Apple Pay into your own Stripe or Ziina account, with GigTag taking 0%.

  3. One code, every room

A venue's software stays with the venue. Your GigTag goes with you. The same printed code works on Thursday in one bar and on Saturday at a wedding, and it never changes, even if you rename the act. Each new audience sees your next gig and weekly residencies and can add them to their calendar. It is yours, not the room's.

A night with GigTag

A singer-songwriter opening a ticketed show

You have a short opening slot and a seated room that came for someone else. Your tag is on the mic stand before the doors open. Midway through the set you say your name and point to it. People in the front rows scan the code, and your page opens in their browsers: your socials, your music links, your website and your own dates. Some save your next gig to their calendars while you tune. On Pro, a request for a song on your list appears in the live queue, and you close with it.

The venue sold the tickets and will settle with the headliner. During the interval your tag is still on the stand, and people walking past scan it on the way to the bar. One of them runs a small concert series and sends a booking enquiry from the foyer. You find it in the GigTag app after the show. The venue's software has done its work for the venue. Your tag has done something else: it has given another artist's audience a way to find you again once the house lights are up.

About Prism.fm

What is Prism.fm?

Prism is booking and management software for live events businesses. Its site names venues and promoters, performing arts centres, booking and talent agencies, and larger event spaces as its customers. It gives a team one place to manage shows from the first booking to the final settlement: a calendar built for booking, offers and contracts, deal and payment tracking, and the finances of each show, so the work no longer lives in separate spreadsheets.

A booker uses the calendar to see every show across one or more rooms, sends offers, and follows the status of each deal and payment. After the show, the settlement brings the offer, the estimates and the actual figures together. Finance staff get reporting across shows and tours. Permissions control who sees what, and an optional insights tool lets participating venues and promoters research past box office results.

How Prism.fm works

  1. 1

Put the show on the calendar. A booker enters the date on a calendar designed for venues, promoters and agents. The whole team can see every show across the rooms the business runs.

  2. 2

Make the offer. Offers and contracts are created in the system. The status and history of each deal and payment is tracked as the booking moves forward towards the show.

  3. 3

Settle the night. After the show, the settlement brings the offer, the estimates and the actual figures into one place, which its site says reduces manual errors and admin.

  4. 4

Report on the business. Revenue and expenses are tracked across shows and tours, with reports by week, month or year. Permissions decide which members of staff see which figures.

Who Prism.fm is for

  • Venues and promoters. Clubs, theatres and independent promoters booking many shows a year. Its site describes one calendar and one record of each deal, so everyone on the team is looking at the same information from the first hold to the settlement.

  • Performing arts centres. Larger cultural venues with varied programmes. Its site has a section written for them, and describes permissions that tailor what each member of staff can see, along with security measures for the sensitive data a venue holds.

  • Booking and talent agencies. Agencies representing artists and planning their tours. Its site has its own page for agencies and describes tracking deals and payments, with accounting for revenue and expenses across the individual shows that make up a tour.

The verdict

GigTag or Prism.fm: which should you choose?

The bottom line

If you are a performer, choose GigTag. Of these two it is the one built for you, and its strongest point is that your audience comes with you: one permanent code that lets any room follow you, save your next gig and book you. Prism is the right kind of system for venues, promoters, performing arts centres and agencies running many shows, and if that is your job it is the one to look at. On a stage, you want the tag.

These are tools for different people, so the choice is usually made by your job. Venues, promoters and agencies should look at Prism. Performers should look at GigTag. They meet happily at the same gig: the venue books and settles the night in its own system, and you put your tag on the stand for the people who came.

  1. Step 1

Let the venue run its system

If the room that books you uses Prism, your offer, contract and settlement are handled there by the venue's team. Your part is to respond when asked.

  2. Step 2

    Prepare your own page

Before the show, add the date to your GigTag page, check your links and song list, and make sure the tag is in your bag.

  3. Step 3

    Work the room yourself

Put the tag on your mic stand, mention it from the stage, and answer any booking enquiries afterwards on the website or in the app.

Questions

Prism.fm and GigTag: what people ask

Something else? Ask us. A person reads every message.

Is GigTag better than Prism.fm for a musician?

For a musician, yes, because it is built for one. GigTag gives a solo act, duo or band a tag for the mic stand and a page the audience opens with one scan: requests on Pro, your next gig, your links and a booking enquiry form. Prism is built for venues, promoters and agencies. The choice follows from which of those you are.

Why would a performer pick GigTag over venue software like Prism.fm?

Because the performer's needs are on the stage, not in the office. You need the crowd to remember you, come to the next gig and book you for their own events. GigTag makes each of those possible from one printed code, with no app for the audience and no commission on bookings. Venue software is built to run the venue.

Is Prism.fm for musicians?

Its site describes Prism as software for venues, promoters, performing arts centres and booking agencies. It covers calendars, offers, contracts, settlements and financial reporting for live events. It is written for the organisations that put shows on. If you are a performer who books your own gigs, a tool made for the act itself, such as GigTag, is a closer fit.

What does GigTag do that is different from Prism.fm?

GigTag gives a solo act, duo or band one permanent QR code on a tag for the mic stand. The audience scans it to request songs, see the next gig and residencies, follow the act's links and send a booking enquiry. Prism manages the business of running shows from the venue or agency side. They are different jobs.

I run a small venue. Do I need Prism.fm or GigTag?

For booking shows, tracking deals and settling nights, look at Prism or a tool like it. GigTag is made for the acts you book, not for the room. It may still interest you: when your regular performers carry a tag, your customers can request songs and see when that act is back, including a weekly residency at your venue.

Can GigTag send me bookings the way an agency on Prism.fm would?

No. GigTag is not an agency or a marketplace and does not find clients for you. What it does is turn the people already watching you into enquiries: they scan the tag and fill in the booking form on your page. Those enquiries come to you directly, and you handle them on the website or the GigTag app.

How does an opening act get noticed by the headliner's audience?

Give them a way to find you that takes no effort. With a GigTag on your mic stand, anyone who likes the set can scan the code from their seat. Your page opens in the browser with your socials, music links and next dates. There is no app, and they do not have to remember your name.

Is there software for musicians, not venues?

Yes, and it comes in different kinds: set list apps, band organisers, website builders and audience tools. GigTag is an audience tool. It gives a solo act, duo or band a permanent QR code on a mic stand tag, which opens a page for requests, gig dates, links and booking enquiries. It is made for the performer.

Does Prism.fm work with ticketing?

Its site describes connections with ticketing partners and other systems, along with settlements and financial reporting for ticketed shows. For which partners and how, see its site. GigTag does not sell tickets. It lists your gigs for the audience and takes booking enquiries, which is a separate job from running a box office.

Can I use the same QR code at a theatre, a bar and a wedding?

Yes. A GigTag has one permanent code for your act, and it works wherever you put the tag. The code never changes, even if you rename the act. The page behind it is yours to update, so the next gig and residencies shown are always the ones you have entered.
