Song request apps
Lime DJ or GigTag for a live set
When you sing or play for a living, the gig has to do two jobs: please the room tonight and bring you back next week. GigTag handles both from one tag on your mic stand: requests from your song list, your dates, your links and a booking form. If you were weighing up Lime DJ, a request app with karaoke and party tools, read this first.
- No app for your audience
- Free to start
- One code that never changes
Why GigTag
Why singers and bands pick GigTag over Lime DJ
Lime DJ is built around the show in progress: voting, karaoke, bingo and a slideshow. GigTag is built around the act: who you are, where you play next and how to book you, on a page that opens from one permanent printed code.
- 1
A page about you
Scan a GigTag and the audience meets your act: your song list, your next gig, your residencies and your links. That is what a duo in a hotel bar or a wedding band wants people to take home. Lime DJ's page serves the night in progress, which is what karaoke and party hosts are after.
- 2
One code, printed once
Your GigTag code belongs to the act and never changes. Print the tag once and use it at every gig for years, even if you rename the act. Lime DJ lets you make a link and code per show, which suits hosts whose nights each have their own theme.
- 3
Regulars can save your residency
List a weekly residency on GigTag and anyone who scans can add it to their calendar. Every gig and residency is on the free plan. For an act that plays the same rooms each week, that gives a passing listener a way to know exactly when you are back.
- 4
Bookings, then invoices
A guest at brunch asks about a private party. They send an enquiry from your GigTag page, free, and GigTag takes no commission on the booking. On Pro you send an invoice in your own design and the client pays online. The enquiry and the payment stay with the same act.
- 5
Solo act and band together
If you play solo midweek and with a band at weekends, GigTag Pro keeps both acts on one account, each with its own page and code, and band members can join the band. You manage requests, gigs, enquiries and invoices for each from the website or the GigTag phone app.
In short
Lime DJ and GigTag, in four lines
- Lime DJ is a browser-based request app aimed at karaoke hosts, DJs and party nights, with voting and bingo.
- GigTag is built around the act: a printed mic stand tag that opens your songs, dates and links.
- One permanent code handles requests, weekly residencies, booking enquiries and, on Pro, invoices clients pay online.
- Choose GigTag for your own live sets, and keep Lime DJ for the karaoke or party nights you host.

Setting up
A printed tag ready for every gig
You design your tag, add your songs, gigs and links on the website or in the GigTag app, and print the tag or order it.

The song list
Requests limited to songs you play

Lime DJPerformers can upload their own song catalogue, and its site also describes Spotify search and manual entry for songs that are not in the list.
During the set
A live queue on your phone
Requests arrive in a live queue during the set, on the website or the GigTag phone app, and you choose what to play from it.
Lime DJRequests show in a dashboard where you drag them into order, mark them as playing now or not available, and reply to the person who sent them.
Extras for the room
Keep Lime DJ for bingo and slideshows
The page stays on the act: next gig, weekly residencies to add to a calendar, socials, website and music links, and a booking enquiry form.
Lime DJIts site lists voting, photo and video albums, a live slideshow, a photobooth and Music Bingo for nights where the crowd wants more than requests.

A Lime DJ alternative
Where GigTag is different from Lime DJ
One code for the act, for good
Lime DJ lets you create a link and QR code for each show, which is handy when every night has its own theme or host. GigTag works the other way: one code per act that never changes. It is printed on a tag for your mic stand, and if you rename the act the old links still work. A regular who photographed your tag last summer can still open your page and see where you are playing this week.
A page about your gigs
Scan a GigTag and the page shows the act: the next gig, weekly residencies a fan can add to their calendar, and your socials, website and music links. Requests sit alongside all that. Lime DJ's request page is built around the show in progress, with voting, photo uploads and the queue, which is what a karaoke or party crowd wants. For a duo in a hotel bar, the quieter question is usually when you are back.
Invoices after the booking
Lime DJ's site describes client portals, a bookings calendar and booking enquiries from the profile page. GigTag keeps to a short path: an enquiry form on your page, on the free plan, and on Pro an invoice in your own design that the client pays online. If someone at a brunch gig asks about a private party, they scan, send the enquiry, and the invoice later comes from the same place.
A night with GigTag
A singer-pianist's night in a piano bar
You sit down at the piano with the tag on the mic stand beside you. People at the bar scan it while they wait for a drink. Your page opens in their browser and shows your song list, so they ask for things you can play. Each request joins the live queue on your phone, propped on the music rest. You glance at it between songs and build the next half hour from what the room has asked for, in the order that makes musical sense.
A couple scans to see when you are back. Your weekly residency is on the page, and they add it to their calendar. Someone else follows your socials and opens your music links on the way home. Near the end, a guest asks whether you play private dinners. You point at the tag: the booking enquiry form is on the same page. The enquiry is waiting in the GigTag app when you pack up, and on Pro you can follow it with an invoice the client pays online.
About Lime DJ
What is Lime DJ?
Lime DJ is a song request app that runs in the browser. Its site says it is for DJs, bands, karaoke hosts, solo performers and duos, and that the audience needs no app. Around the request list it offers voting, tips through Stripe, a song database you upload, lyrics on screen for the performer, and extras for a party: photo and video albums, a live slideshow and Music Bingo. There is also a profile page with a booking form.
You sign up, fill in a profile and download your QR code, which can go on flyers, coasters or business cards. You can make a separate link and code for each show. Guests scan it, pick a song and add a message or a tip. Requests land in your dashboard, where you drag them into order and mark each one as playing now or not available. An iOS app for performers sends alerts.

How Lime DJ works
- 1
Register and pick a username. You create an account with a username. Its site says the username becomes part of your web address, so the link to your request page carries your name.
- 2
Fill in your profile. You add a business name, type and location, and can add a photo, biography and social links. In settings you choose timezone and currency and connect Stripe if you want tips.
- 3
Download your QR code. The QR code points at your public request page. Its site suggests flyers, business cards, coasters and posters, and you can also create a separate link and code for an individual show.
- 4
Work the request list. Requests arrive in the dashboard in any web browser. You drag them into order, mark a song as playing now or not available, and can send a message back to the person who asked.
Who Lime DJ is for
Karaoke hosts. Karaoke is named throughout its site. Singers send their song from their phone, the host keeps the list in order on a dashboard, and its site lists accolades for karaoke nights alongside the request tools. A live photo slideshow can run on a screen in the venue.
DJs at parties and events. For DJs its site describes song data such as BPM and musical key, TIDAL playlist sync, and compatibility with Serato and rekordbox. Guests vote on requests already in the list, and a photobooth and slideshow add something for the party beyond the music.
Bands, duos and piano bars. Its site names bands, solo performers, duos and piano bar entertainers. They can upload their own song database so the audience chooses from it, and open stored lyrics in a lyrics player, a feature its site aims at the live performer.
The verdict
GigTag or Lime DJ: which should you choose?
The bottom line
For a singer, duo or band playing its own sets, GigTag is the one to choose. Its strongest point is that everything behind the code is about your act and your next date, on a tag you print once and keep. Lime DJ is still the better tool for hosts who run karaoke, music bingo or party nights with voting and a photo slideshow, and some performers will sensibly use both for different nights.
They overlap on requests, so most acts will choose one for a given night. A sensible split is by the type of work: Lime DJ for the karaoke or quiz night you host, where voting, bingo and a photo slideshow keep a room busy, and GigTag on the mic stand for your own live sets, where the page is about your act and your dates.
- Step 1
Give each night its tool
Use Lime DJ for the nights you host, such as karaoke or a party with voting and a slideshow. Use GigTag for your own sets, with the tag on your mic stand.
- Step 2
Keep one song list current
When you learn new songs or drop old ones, update the list in whichever tool you are using that night, so the audience only sees songs you play.
- Step 3
Point bookings at one form
Choose one place for booking enquiries. If you want the enquiry and the invoice together, send people to the form on your own GigTag page.
Choose GigTag if
You play live and want one permanent code on a printed tag that shows your gigs and residencies, takes requests and enquiries, and stays the same for years.

Is GigTag better than Lime DJ for a duo with a residency?
For a residency, GigTag fits closely. You list the weekly date once, and anyone who scans the tag on your mic stand can add it to their calendar. The same page takes requests from your song list, links to your socials and music, and carries a booking enquiry form. The code never changes, so regulars always land in the right place.
What does GigTag do that Lime DJ does not focus on?
GigTag focuses on the act and its work beyond tonight. It gives you a custom printed tag for the mic stand, a page listing every gig and weekly residency, and invoices in your own design that clients pay online after an enquiry. Lime DJ focuses on running the night itself, with voting, karaoke tools, bingo and photo sharing.
Is Lime DJ only for DJs?
No. Its site names DJs, bands, karaoke hosts, solo performers, duos and piano bar entertainers. It includes a lyrics player and lets you upload your own song database, which are aimed at people who perform the songs themselves. GigTag is narrower by design: it is made for live acts, whether solo, duo or band.
Can a duo or band use GigTag instead of Lime DJ?
Yes. GigTag is built for solo acts, duos and bands. You get one QR code on a custom tag, and fans scan it to request a song from your list, see your gigs and send a booking enquiry. One account can hold more than one act, and band members can join the band. Requests and extra acts are on Pro.
What does the crowd have to do with Lime DJ or GigTag?
Scan a QR code with their phone camera. Lime DJ says its request page needs no audience app, and GigTag's page also opens in the browser with no app and no account. From there the guest picks a song and sends it. Neither asks the audience to install anything before they can take part.
Can I take tips through GigTag as I can with Lime DJ?
Yes, in every country, on Pro. GigTag tips are paid by card or Apple Pay into the performer's own account, Ziina in the UAE or Stripe everywhere else, and GigTag takes 0%. Lime DJ's site describes tips through Stripe, so check with it for where that is available.
Does Lime DJ work for karaoke nights?
Yes. Its site names karaoke hosts among the people it is for and lists accolades for karaoke alongside requests, voting and a photo slideshow. Singers send songs from their phones and the host manages the list in a dashboard. GigTag is made for acts performing their own sets, so it is not aimed at running a karaoke rotation.
Does Lime DJ show lyrics for the performer?
Its site describes a lyrics player: for songs you have stored lyrics for, you can open the words while you perform. It also mentions chords. GigTag does a different job and is not a set list or chord chart app. It handles the audience side: requests, your dates, your links and booking enquiries.
Can I list a weekly residency so regulars know when I am back?
Yes, with GigTag. You can list every gig and each weekly residency on your page, and that is on the free plan. A fan who scans your tag sees the next date and can add it to their own calendar. Because the code never changes, a regular can open the same page any week to check.
Do I need a phone app to run song requests at a gig?
Not necessarily. Lime DJ's site says performers can sign in from any web browser, with an iOS app also available. GigTag can be managed from the website or from the GigTag phone app, and the live queue of requests shows in either. In both cases the audience uses only the browser on their own phone.
