Requestin or GigTag: paid requests, or a page for the whole gig

A request is a good moment: someone in the room likes you enough to ask. GigTag makes more of it. The scan that takes the request also shows your next gig, your links and a booking form, from one tag on your mic stand. If you were looking at Requestin, which is built around paid requests, here is why GigTag gives a live act more to work with.

  • No app for your audience
  • Free to start
  • One code that never changes

Why GigTag

Five reasons to choose GigTag over Requestin

Requestin does one job, paid requests from a band's song lists, and keeps count of the takings. GigTag gives the same request from your list a wider setting: your gigs, your links, booking enquiries and invoices, on a printed code that stays the same for good.

  1. 1

    The scan does more work

A fan who scans to request a song also sees where you play next, can add it to their calendar, follow your socials and music, and send a booking enquiry. One code, one page, several results from the same moment of interest. Requestin keeps that moment for the request and its payment.

  2. 2

A booking is worth planning for

GigTag puts a booking enquiry form on your page on the free plan and takes no commission on bookings. On Pro you invoice the client in your own design and they pay online. Requestin tracks what requests earn on the night, and GigTag also looks after the work the night leads to.

  3. 3

    Free to begin

The free plan gives one act its tag design and print file, a page, links, every gig and residency, and the enquiry form. You can print the tag yourself and be on stage with it before spending anything. Pro adds requests, invoices, more acts, and tips with 0% of them taken.

  4. 4

    A printed tag that lasts

GigTag is built around a small custom tag for the mic stand. The code on it never changes and old links survive a change of name, so you print once. People see it from their seats and scan with the camera, with no app and no account.

  5. 5

    Every line-up in one place

If you play in more than one line-up, Pro lets one account hold them all, each with its own page and code, and band members can join the band. Your song list, gigs and enquiries for each act are managed from the website or the GigTag phone app.

The song list

GigTag

Your list, or open to any song

You enter your song list and fans request from it. If you want to, you can open requests so they can ask for anything.

RequestinBands build their own song lists in Requestin, and fans send requests from those lists, so every request is a song the band has chosen to offer.

How fans reach it

GigTag

A printed code that never changes

Fans scan the permanent QR code on your mic stand tag, and your page opens in their phone's browser with no app or account.

RequestinRequests are taken by QR code or by link, so the band can show a code at the gig or pass the link on to fans.

Paying for a request

GigTag

0% taken from tips

Tips are by card or Apple Pay into your own Ziina account in the UAE, or your own Stripe account everywhere else, and GigTag takes 0%.

RequestinRequestin accepts payment for requests, so a fan pays as part of asking for a song. Check its listing for the payment methods it supports.

Keeping count

GigTag

Invoices clients pay online

On Pro you can send invoices in your own design for the bookings you take, and clients pay them online.

RequestinThe band can track what it earns from requests, which gives it a running record of the money that requests have brought in.

A Requestin alternative

Where GigTag is different from Requestin

  1. Requests and tips on one page

Requestin joins the request and the payment: the fan pays to ask. GigTag's page offers the two side by side. A fan can request a song from your list, and a fan can leave a tip by card or Apple Pay. Tips go into your own Ziina account in the UAE, or your own Stripe account everywhere else, with 0% taken by GigTag.

  2. Tonight's earnings, next month's booking

Requestin tracks what requests earn you. GigTag looks at the work that follows the gig: the page has a booking enquiry form on the free plan, and on Pro you can send invoices in your own design that clients pay online. For many cover bands, a private party booked from the floor matters as much as the night's requests, and that is the thinking behind it.

  3. A tag and a page of dates

GigTag gives you a small custom tag for the mic stand with one QR code that never changes. The page behind it shows your next gig and weekly residencies, which fans can add to their calendar, and your socials, website and music links. Requestin offers its requests by QR code or by link, built around your song lists. GigTag spreads the page across the whole act.

A night with GigTag

A duo at a Dubai beach club brunch

Friday brunch, four hours, two of you and a loop pedal. The tag is on the mic stand in your own colours. Tables scan it between plates, your page opens in the browser, and they pick from your song list. Requests arrive in the live queue on the tablet beside you. The same page lets a guest leave a tip by card or Apple Pay. Here in the UAE it goes through your own Ziina account, and GigTag takes 0% of it.

Brunch crowds are tourists one week and residents the next. The residents check your page for the weekly residency and add it to their calendar. A visitor follows your socials to remember the name. Before the last set, a guest sends a booking enquiry for a villa party. You answer it from the GigTag app that evening and, with Pro, send an invoice in your own design that the client pays online. Next Friday the tag is back on the stand with the same code.

About Requestin

What is Requestin?

Requestin is a song request tool for bands. A band builds its song lists in it, then takes requests through a QR code or a link. Requests can carry a payment, and the band can track what it earns from them. In short, it is a request line with a till attached: the list of what you play, a way for fans to ask, and a record of the money that came in.

Before a gig you put your songs in and decide which list is on offer. At the gig you show the QR code, or share the link, and fans choose from the list and pay for their request. Afterwards you can look at what the night earned. Check Requestin's own listing for setup details and for where its payments are supported.

How Requestin works

  1. 1

Build your song lists. The band enters the songs it plays and arranges them into lists, so there is a set menu of songs for the audience to choose from.

  2. 2

Share the code or link. The band shows a QR code at the gig or shares a link. Fans open it and send a request from the list, with a payment for the request.

  3. 3

Track what you earn. Requestin keeps a record of the payments that requests have brought in, so the band can look up what it has earned from them so far.

Who Requestin is for

  • Bands with a set repertoire. Requestin starts from song lists, so it suits a band that knows exactly what it plays and wants the audience to choose from that. A covers band with a long list can put the whole menu in front of the room.

  • Acts that charge for requests. Some bands treat a request as a paid extra. Requestin accepts payment for requests, so the fan pays when they ask and the band has a record of it without keeping a tally by hand.

  • Performers who watch the numbers. Because it tracks earnings, it suits a band that wants to know what requests are worth to it. That can help when deciding which gigs to repeat or how much of the night to give over to requests.

The verdict

GigTag or Requestin: which should you choose?

The bottom line

If you want a gig to lead somewhere, choose GigTag. The strongest reason is breadth: the scan that takes a request also saves your next date in a fan's calendar and puts a booking form in front of them, on a code you print once. Requestin is still the natural pick for a band whose aim is to have each request paid for and to watch that total. GigTag tips are optional and work in every country.

Both take requests from a band's own list, so use one per gig. Requestin fits the band that wants each request paid for and likes to see the total. GigTag fits the band that wants a permanent printed code, gig dates and booking enquiries from the same scan. If you trial both, do it on different nights so the audience only ever sees one code.

  1. Step 1

    Decide how requests run

If you want every request paid for, run requests through Requestin. If you would sooner choose freely from a live queue, run them through GigTag.

  2. Step 2

    Keep GigTag for the rest

Even if requests go elsewhere, your GigTag page can still show your gigs, residencies and links and take booking enquiries, all on the free plan.

  3. Step 3

    Use one code a night

Whichever you choose for a gig, put that one code in front of the audience and leave the other at home, so nobody is unsure which to scan.

Questions

Requestin and GigTag: what people ask

Something else? Ask us. A person reads every message.

Is GigTag better than Requestin for a gigging band?

For most gigging bands it offers more. Requests come from your song list into a live queue, and the same page shows every gig and residency, links to your socials and music, and takes booking enquiries with no commission. On Pro you add invoices paid online. Requestin is the more focused tool if paid requests are all you want.

Why would I switch from Requestin to GigTag?

To get more from each scan. With GigTag, someone who asks for a song is also shown your next gig and a way to book you, and the code on your mic stand never changes. It is free to start. On Pro, fans can tip by card or Apple Pay and GigTag takes 0% of the tips.

What is Requestin?

Requestin is a tool for bands that take song requests. A band builds its song lists, shares a QR code or a link, and fans send requests from those lists. Requests can be paid for, and the band can track what it has earned. Check its own listing for current details of how it works.

Can fans request from my own song list on GigTag, as with Requestin?

Yes. On GigTag a fan scans your tag and requests a song from your song list. If you prefer, you can open requests so they can ask for anything. Requests appear in a live queue that you watch on the website or in the GigTag app during the set. Song requests are part of the Pro plan.

Is a GigTag code reusable after the gig?

Yes, nothing changes. An act's QR code is permanent, and the same printed tag goes to every gig. If the band changes its name, the old links still work. Fans who scanned at one gig can come back to the page later to check your next date or send a booking enquiry.

Should a band use Requestin and GigTag together?

Usually not on the same night, since both take requests and two codes on one stage split the audience. Choose Requestin if paid requests and earnings tracking are the aim. Choose GigTag if you want a printed tag, your gigs and residencies, links, booking enquiries and invoices alongside requests. Either way, show the crowd one code.

Do fans pay for song requests on Requestin?

Requestin accepts payment for requests, so a band can have fans pay when they ask for a song, and it tracks what the band earns. For the amounts and payment methods, check its own listing. On GigTag, requesting a song and leaving a tip are separate options on the page, and tips work in every country.

Can I share Requestin by link as well as by QR code?

Yes. Requestin takes requests by QR code or by link, so the band can display a code at the gig or send the link to fans directly. GigTag is centred on the printed QR code on your mic stand tag, and the page behind it has its own link that keeps working even if you rename the act.

Can I take card tips at a gig in Dubai?

Yes, with GigTag Pro. In the UAE a fan can scan your tag and leave a tip by card or Apple Pay. The money goes through your own Ziina account and GigTag takes 0% of it. Outside the UAE, GigTag tips go into your own Stripe account instead. In the UAE, Pro costs AED 30 a month or AED 300 a year.

How do I put a song list in front of an audience?

With GigTag you enter your song list once, and it appears on your page. The audience scans the QR code on your mic stand tag and sees the songs in their browser, with no app to install. They choose the one they want and it reaches your live queue. Requests come with Pro.
