Feature.fm for release day, GigTag for gig night

A release campaign ends on release day. A gig asks for something else: a way for the people in front of you to request a song, save your next date and get in touch about booking you. GigTag gives you that from one printed code on your mic stand. Feature.fm, which you may know from pre-saves and smart links, is built for the campaign.

Why GigTag

What GigTag adds on stage beyond Feature.fm

Feature.fm does a job GigTag does not attempt: marketing a release across streaming services. GigTag does the job that starts when you walk on stage. Without it, a room that loved the set has no simple way to request, come back or book you. With it, one scan covers all three.

  1. 1

    The room can answer back

On Pro, the audience requests songs from your list and you see them in a live queue on your phone. For an originals act that is instant feedback on which songs people know and want. Feature.fm gathers its signals online, from pre-saves and link clicks, in the weeks around a release.

  2. 2

Tonight's crowd finds the next show

Your page shows your next gig and weekly residencies, and a fan can add them to their calendar before leaving the venue. Feature.fm's tour links gather your dates for followers online. GigTag catches the person who discovered you an hour ago and has not followed you anywhere yet.

  3. 3

    Bookings come to you directly

Venue bookers, promoters and party planners are in audiences too. The enquiry form on your page lets them reach you on the spot, on the free plan and with no commission on bookings. On Pro, you can invoice in your own design and be paid online.

  4. 4

Your release link travels with you

A GigTag page carries your music links, so your Feature.fm release link or bio link is one tap away for everyone who scans. The gig becomes another place your campaign reaches, and the listener can find the track on their own streaming service.

  5. 5

    Print once, play anywhere

The code on your tag never changes. It works at the launch show, the support slot and the festival, and it keeps working if the act changes its name. The audience needs no app and no account, only a phone camera, so the tag does its work in any room.

In short

Feature.fm and GigTag, in four lines

  • Feature.fm is a music marketing platform for releases: smart links, pre-saves, bio links and fan data.
  • GigTag gives a live audience a way to respond: song requests in a live queue on your phone.
  • One scan also saves your next date and sends a booking enquiry, with no app and no commission.
  • If you gig as well as release, add GigTag for the stage and keep Feature.fm for the campaign.

Release day

GigTag

Keep Feature.fm for this, and link it on your page

On the night, your music links are on your page for anyone who scans, including the link to the new release.

Feature.fmA release link points fans to your music across streaming services, so each listener opens it in the one they use.

Before the release

GigTag

A page you update, on a tag you never reprint

Before a gig you update your gigs, residencies and song list from the website or the GigTag app. The tag itself needs no changes.

Feature.fmPre-save links are for building momentum ahead of a release, and Future Save is described as delivering your future releases to your fans.

Your dates

GigTag

Next gig saved to a fan's calendar at the venue

Your next gig and weekly residencies show on your page, and a fan can add them to their calendar straight from it.

Feature.fmTour and event links put all your tour dates behind a single link, which its site presents as a way to sell more tickets.

Knowing your fans

GigTag

Requests show what each room wants to hear

You learn what the room wants from its requests, and who wants to hire you from the booking enquiries in your account.

Feature.fmFan base management is described as knowing who your fans are and contacting them directly, with ways to collect, organise and sync their details.

Engaging fans

GigTag

Fans request a song and you play it

The exchange is immediate: a fan requests a song from your list on Pro, and you play it while they are still there.

Feature.fmIts site describes contest pages that reward fans with prizes in return for taking the actions you want from them.

Feature.fm or GigTag

Where GigTag is different from Feature.fm

  1. Pre-saves or song requests

Feature.fm counts pre-saves and streams. At a gig the equivalent is a request: someone at the bar wants to hear a particular song and says so. On GigTag Pro they pick it from your song list, or ask for anything if you allow it, and it joins a live queue on your phone. It is a response to the performance, not to the recording.

  2. Release date or next gig

A Feature.fm campaign builds towards a release date. A GigTag page builds towards your next gig. It shows one-off gigs and weekly residencies, and a fan can add either to their calendar from the page. For an act that plays the same venues every week, that calendar entry is how tonight's listener becomes next week's regular.

  3. Fans online, clients in the room

Feature.fm helps you find and keep fans across streaming and social platforms. GigTag helps with a different person: the one who might hire you. The page behind your tag carries a booking enquiry form, and on Pro you can send an invoice in your own design that the client pays online. GigTag does not find clients for you. It catches the ones already listening.

A night with GigTag

A single launch show in your home town

Your new single came out on Friday and tonight is the launch show in a room above a bar. The pre-save campaign is finished. What is left is a crowd of friends, fans and strangers. Your tag is on the mic stand. People scan it while the support act packs away, and your page opens in the browser. Among your music links is the one for the single, so tonight's song can be streamed on the way home.

You play the catalogue and, on Pro, let the room request older songs from your list. The choices queue on your phone and settle the encore for you. Your next gigs are on the page, and people add the one nearest them to their calendar. A venue booker in the audience sends an enquiry before leaving. Tomorrow your release link carries on working online, and your tag goes to the next town with you, unchanged.

About Feature.fm

What is Feature.fm?

Feature.fm is a music marketing platform for independent artists, also used by labels, managers and distributors. Its site frames the job as building a fan base and a career around your music. The core is a family of links: a release link that points to your music on every service, a pre-save link for the weeks before a release, an artist bio link, tour and event links, and short links for anything else.

An artist typically sets up a pre-save before release day, moves to a release link once the track is out, and keeps a bio link in their profiles. Its site also describes Future Save, which delivers later releases to fans, and contest pages that reward fans with prizes for taking an action. Behind the links sit fan contact tools and analytics that can feed advertising platforms.

How Feature.fm works

  1. 1

Create a link. You create the link that fits the moment: a pre-save before release, a release link once the music is out, or a bio link for your profile.

  2. 2

Share it with fans. You post the link wherever you promote. A fan who opens a release link finds your music on the services listed and picks their own.

  3. 3

Collect your fans. Its fan base tools gather contact details from the people who use your links, and its site describes organising them and syncing them to other tools.

  4. 4

Read the insights. Analytics track how fans behave across your links and give artist-level insights, which its site says can be sent to ad retargeting platforms for your next campaign.

Who Feature.fm is for

  • Independent artists releasing music. Its headline audience is the independent artist building a fan base. Release links, pre-saves and Future Save are all about getting a new track into as many libraries as possible on and after release day.

  • Labels and managers. Its site invites labels, managers, marketers and distributors who run marketing across artist rosters and want aggregated data. That is a different scale of use from one act promoting one single, but it sits on the same set of links.

  • Podcasters and touring acts. Two link types reach beyond releases. Podcast links gather a show's audio platforms behind one address, and tour and event links put all your dates behind one link to help sell tickets for the shows you promote.

The verdict

GigTag or Feature.fm: which should you choose?

The bottom line

If you play your music live, add GigTag. The strongest reason is that it gives a live audience a way to respond while they are still in the room, through requests, saved dates and booking enquiries from one scan. Feature.fm is still the tool for pre-saves, smart links and release marketing, and GigTag does not replace it. An artist who releases and gigs is well served by both: one for the campaign, one for the stage.

Use both if you release and gig. Feature.fm looks after the release: pre-saves, smart links, your bio link. GigTag looks after the stand. Put your Feature.fm release link among the music links on your GigTag page, so a room that liked the song can stream it later, and add your GigTag page to your Feature.fm bio link so followers can see your dates.

  1. Step 1

    Run the release on Feature.fm

Set up your pre-save and release link and promote them online as usual. Nothing about that side of your work needs to change for GigTag.

  2. Step 2

    Add the link to GigTag

Put the release link among the music links on your GigTag page before the next gig, so the room can find the track afterwards on their own service.

  3. Step 3

Play the show with the tag

Hang the tag on your mic stand. Mention it once from the stage, take requests on Pro, and check your account for booking enquiries afterwards.

Questions

Feature.fm and GigTag: what people ask

Something else? Ask us. A person reads every message.

Do I need GigTag if I already use Feature.fm?

If you gig, yes. Feature.fm looks after the release online. GigTag looks after the show: a printed code on your stand, song requests on Pro, your next dates and a booking enquiry form, opened in the browser with no app. Without something like it, the audience has no route from enjoying the set to following, returning or booking.

Which will a band that mostly plays live use more, GigTag or Feature.fm?

For a band whose income is mostly gigs, GigTag is the one you will use at every show: requests in a live queue on Pro, residencies and gigs fans can save, and bookings with no commission. Feature.fm comes into its own when you have a release to promote on streaming services, so many bands will keep it for those weeks.

Is GigTag an alternative to Feature.fm?

Not for release marketing. GigTag is not a streaming service or a music store, and release campaigns are not what it is for. It gives a live act a permanent QR code on a tag and a page for the gig, with requests on Pro, dates, links and a booking form. If you want more from the people at your shows, GigTag is the tool for that.

Can I add my Feature.fm smart link to a GigTag page?

Yes. A GigTag page carries your music links as well as your socials and website, so a Feature.fm release link or bio link fits there. Someone who scans the tag on your stand can then open it and listen on their own streaming service. The GigTag page opens in the browser with no app or account.

Does Feature.fm have something for gigs?

Its site lists tour and event links, which gather your tour dates behind one link to help sell tickets. GigTag approaches gigs from inside the venue: a tag on the stand, your next gig and residencies, song requests on Pro and a booking enquiry form. The two can point to each other.

I release originals with Feature.fm. Does GigTag suit an originals act?

Yes. Requests come from your own song list, so an originals act can let the room choose from its catalogue. Your gigs, residencies, links and booking form are on the free plan, and requests are on Pro. Tips are on Pro too, and GigTag takes 0% of them.

Can fans request my original songs at a gig?

Yes. On GigTag Pro you add your own songs to your song list, and fans who scan your tag choose from it. Their requests appear in a live queue on your phone during the set. If you would like to hear what else the room wants, you can open requests so they can ask for anything.

Does GigTag sell tickets or music?

No. GigTag is not a store or a streaming service. Your page links out to your music, your website and your socials, so tickets and recordings stay wherever you already sell them. What GigTag handles itself is the gig: requests, dates, booking enquiries and, on Pro, invoices that clients pay online.

Where should I send a live audience, to Feature.fm or to GigTag?

Send them to the page built for where they are. In the room, that is GigTag, because it lets them request a song on Pro, see your next gig and enquire about booking. Your Feature.fm release link or bio link sits on that page among your music links, so nothing is lost by starting there.

Can I manage GigTag from my phone during a show?

Yes. GigTag is managed from the website or the GigTag phone app. During a set, the live queue of requests is what you will look at. Away from the stage, the same account holds your gigs and residencies, your booking enquiries and, on Pro, your invoices.
