GigTag

Booking sites and agencies

Songkick lists the concert. GigTag sits on the mic stand.

At any show, part of the room knows you and part of it came with a friend. You need the second group to leave knowing your name, your music and your next date, and you need a way for requests and enquiries to reach you. GigTag does that from one code on the mic stand. If Songkick is where you list concerts, this is the piece for the room.

Why GigTag

Five reasons to add GigTag alongside Songkick

Songkick is built to tell fans who track you that a concert is coming. GigTag is built for the concert, and for every other kind of gig. One scan lets anyone in the room follow you, request a song on Pro, save your next date or send a booking enquiry.

  1. 1

    Newcomers follow you mid-set

The friend who was brought along scans the tag and has your socials and music links in their browser before the next song, with no app or account. Songkick alerts the fans who already track you. GigTag is how the rest of the room catches up with them.

  2. 2

    A live request queue

On Pro, the audience requests from your song list, or anything if you open requests, and each request appears in a live queue on your phone. The room helps shape the set. Songkick's part is bringing people to the show. This is for what happens once they are in.

  3. 3

Every kind of gig on one page

Ticketed concerts, a weekly residency, a private event you want to mention: all of them sit on your GigTag page on the free plan, and fans add them to their calendars. Songkick lists concerts for fans to find and buy tickets. GigTag lists the whole working week.

  4. 4

    Booking enquiries, direct

A venue booker or someone planning a party can send an enquiry from your page while you are still on stage. It arrives in the GigTag app, GigTag takes no commission, and on Pro you can send an invoice the client pays online. A listings service points fans to shows. This points clients to you.

  5. 5

Nothing for the fan to install

The whole thing runs on a phone camera and a browser. That matters at a gig, where nobody wants to stop and set something up. The code is permanent too, so a photo of the tag works later. Songkick's apps are for fans who follow live music closely. The tag is for anyone.

Songkick or GigTag

Where GigTag is different from Songkick

  1. Trackers at home, strangers at the bar

Songkick talks to people who already track you. They get the alert at home and decide whether to come. GigTag talks to whoever is in the room, including people who had never heard of you an hour ago. They scan the QR code on the tag on your mic stand, your page opens in their browser with no app or account, and your socials and music links are in front of them.

  2. Song requests mid-set

A covers duo in a hotel lounge gets asked for songs all night. With GigTag on Pro, guests scan the tag and choose from your song list, or ask for anything if you open requests, and you see each request in a live queue on your phone. Songkick is about finding concerts and tickets. GigTag is about what happens between the first song and the last.

  3. Weekly residencies and private bookings

A working act's diary is full of weekly residencies, weddings and corporate dinners. GigTag shows your residencies and next gig on your page, ready to add to a calendar, and has a booking enquiry form for anyone who wants to hire you. The enquiry reaches you in the GigTag app or on the website. On Pro you can send the client an invoice to pay online. GigTag takes no commission.

A night with GigTag

A ticketed headline show in a small venue

Doors were at eight and the room is nearly full for your headline show. Some of the crowd tracked you online and bought tickets the day they went on sale. A good part of the rest came along with a friend and could not name one of your songs. Your tag is on the mic stand. Two songs in, you tell the room it is there. The newcomers scan it. Your page opens in their browsers, no app, no account, and they have your music links and socials before the chorus comes round again.

You are on Pro, and a request arrives in the live queue for the old favourite you had left off the set list. You play it. The page also shows what is next: a stripped-back set in a bookshop next week and your weekly residency. People add dates to their calendars from where they stand. After the encore, someone from a venue in the next town scans the tag by the stage and sends a booking enquiry through the form. It is in the GigTag app before you have coiled the last cable.

About Songkick

What is Songkick?

Songkick is a concert discovery service. Fans use the website or the iPhone and Android apps to find live music near them, track the artists they like, receive alerts when those artists announce shows, and buy tickets. Its site describes the service as putting fans first, and says it has been a home for live music since 2007. Festivals, popular artists and live streams all have their own sections.

Artists and their teams work through Tourbox, Songkick's tool for controlling concert listings and tickets in one place. Its site says events can be synced to your own website and reach fans on other music platforms. Tourbox also describes presale campaigns that notify your fanbase on Songkick, and audience insights into how your concerts are performing and where your fans are.

Worldwide

How Songkick works

  1. 1

Sign up to Tourbox. A touring artist, a manager or a booking agent signs up to Tourbox, the part of Songkick that is made for artists and the teams around them.

  2. 2

Add concerts and tickets. Concert listings and tickets are controlled in one place. Its site describes this as managing tours and tickets together, wherever in the world the tour is going.

  3. 3

Sync them outwards. Events can be kept in sync with your own website, and its site says they reach fans on other platforms, naming SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Deezer and Pandora.

  4. 4

Fans get the alert. Fans who track you on Songkick are alerted to your shows. Presale campaigns let you notify that fanbase directly and give them early access to tickets.

Who Songkick is for

  • Touring artists. Tourbox speaks first to artists on the road, whether solo or with a full support team. They use it to promote live shows, engage fans and control how they appear on Songkick. Its site puts the number of artists and teams using it at over 100,000.

  • Artist managers. For managers, its site talks about promoting an artist's tour and reaching their fans wherever they are, on Songkick and on the partner platforms it names. Presale campaigns are part of the same toolkit for them.

  • Booking agents. Agents are addressed too. Its site says they can see where an artist is popular and how much of a buzz they are creating, and use that to find the right cities and venues for the next tour.

The verdict

GigTag or Songkick: which should you choose?

The bottom line

If you play live, put a GigTag on the mic stand. The strongest reason is reach inside the room: anyone can scan it, known fan or newcomer, and in one step follow you, request a song on Pro, save your next date or enquire. GigTag is not a concert discovery service. Acts that play ticketed concerts are still well served by Songkick for alerts to the fans who track them, and should keep both.

They cover different ground, so there is no need to choose. If you play ticketed concerts, keep your dates in Tourbox so the fans tracking you hear about them. Put a GigTag on the stand at every gig, ticketed or not, so the audience can follow you, save your next date and get in touch. Each one reaches people the other was never meant to.

  1. Step 1

    Keep Tourbox up to date

Enter your ticketed concerts in Tourbox so the fans tracking you on Songkick get the alert and can find the tickets when they go on sale.

  2. Step 2

    Mirror them on GigTag

Add the same shows to your GigTag page, plus the residencies and private dates you want people to see, and check that your links are current.

  3. Step 3

    Mention the tag on stage

At the show, tell the room once that the tag is on the stand. Newcomers scan it and leave with your links and next date.

Questions

Songkick and GigTag: what people ask

Something else? Ask us. A person reads every message.

Is GigTag better than Songkick for a duo with a residency?

For a residency, GigTag is the closer fit. It shows your weekly date for guests to save, takes song requests on Pro, carries your links and has a booking enquiry form, from one code on the mic stand with no app. Songkick is built for fans tracking artists and finding ticketed concerts, which is a different job.

What does GigTag do that Songkick is not focused on?

The gig itself. GigTag gives the people in the room a code to scan, and from it they can request songs on Pro, follow your socials, save your next gig or residency and send a booking enquiry directly to you. Songkick focuses on helping fans discover concerts and get tickets beforehand. Many acts will want both.

What is Songkick Tourbox?

Tourbox is Songkick's tool for artists and their teams. Its site says you can control your concert listings and tickets in one place, sync events to your own website, reach fans on other music platforms, run presale campaigns to the fans following you on Songkick, and see audience insights. See its site for details.

Is GigTag a Songkick alternative?

Not for concert discovery. GigTag is not a marketplace or a listings service. It is a permanent QR code on a custom tag for your mic stand. People at the gig scan it to see your next date and weekly residencies, follow your links, request songs or send a booking enquiry.

Can fans who track me on Songkick add my gigs to their calendar from GigTag?

Yes, anyone can. Your GigTag page shows your next gig and weekly residencies, and a fan can add them to their calendar straight from the page. Gigs and residencies are included in the free plan. You keep them up to date from the website or the GigTag phone app.

Does GigTag suit a duo or band that lists concerts on Songkick?

Yes. GigTag is for solo acts, duos and bands. Band members can join a band, and on Pro one account can hold more than one act. The free plan covers one act, with the tag design and print file, the page, links, gigs, residencies and the booking enquiry form.

Who can use Songkick Tourbox?

Its site addresses three groups: touring artists, whether solo or with a team, artist managers promoting a tour, and booking agents who want to see where an artist is popular. It says more than 100,000 artists and their teams have joined. See its site for how to sign up as an artist.

How do fans get concert alerts on Songkick?

They track the artists they like on the Songkick website or in its iPhone and Android apps. Its site says they then receive personalised concert alerts and can buy tickets, and that it has been a home for live music since 2007. Artists manage their own listings through Tourbox.

How do I get plus ones at a show to follow my band?

Make following you easy while the music is still playing. A GigTag on your mic stand opens your page in their browser when scanned, with your socials, website and music links and your next gig. There is no app and no account, so someone who arrived knowing nothing about you can follow before the next song.

Can I take booking enquiries at a ticketed show?

Yes. Your GigTag page has a booking enquiry form, on the free plan. Anyone at the show, from a venue booker to someone planning a party, can scan the tag on your mic stand and send their details. The enquiry reaches you in the GigTag app or on the website, and GigTag takes no commission.
