In France
France made the paperwork easy. That is the whole advantage.
France has the simplest on-ramp for a small printing income in this series: the micro-entrepreneur regime registers online, charges you on what you actually earn, and leaves you alone below generous ceilings. Power is near the European average. The rest is the same arithmetic as everywhere.

In short
In France, PLA runs about 15 to 25 euros a kilo and electricity sits near the EU average of roughly 29 cents a kilowatt hour. The micro-entrepreneur regime is the usual route for a side income: registration is online, charges are a percentage of turnover, and the ceilings from January 2026 are 203,100 euros for goods and 83,600 for services.
Filament and power
What a print costs a French printer
PLA is 15 to 25 euros a kilo delivered, so 1.5 to 2.5 cents a gram and roughly 1 to 1.75 euros of plastic in a 70 g print. The French and Benelux sellers deliver quickly and the price differences between them are worth ten minutes once a year.
Electricity sits near the EU average, which makes France middling: a five-hour print at 120 W is 0.6 kWh, somewhere around 15 to 18 cents on a typical tariff. If you are on heures creuses, start long prints at night and halve it.
Eurostat put the EU average household electricity price at about 29 cents a kilowatt hour in the second half of 2025, with Ireland and Germany highest at roughly 40 and 39. Your own tariff is the only one that matters, so take it off your bill, or put a 10-euro plug meter on the printer for a week.
Postage
Colissimo against the relay networks
France has something most of Europe lacks: a mature relay-point network. Mondial Relay and the other point-relais services undercut Colissimo substantially for small parcels, and French buyers are entirely used to collecting from a shop rather than waiting in.
- Offer relay delivery as the default and home delivery as the paid option. It is cheaper for you and normal for them.
- Lettre suivie carries flat items up to its weight limit for a fraction of a parcel. Design for it where you can.
- Corsica and the DOM-TOM are priced separately. Quote them separately or exclude them.
Micro-entreprise
The micro-entrepreneur regime, which is the easy part
Registration is online and free, you declare turnover monthly or quarterly, and social charges are a percentage of what you actually took — so a quiet month costs you nothing, which is the opposite of the Spanish position.
From 1 January 2026 the ceilings are 203,100 euros for the sale of goods and 83,600 for services, holding through 2028, and the VAT franchise thresholds sit lower, at 85,000 and 37,500. Selling printed objects is normally the goods column; printing to order for someone else may be services, and the distinction decides your rate.
Checked in October 2026 and not advice. The goods-or-services call is worth getting right from the start, so read service-public.fr or ask an accountant before you register.
What pays here
Where French printer owners sell
Leboncoin is the centre of gravity for local trade and worth more to a printer than any international marketplace: buyers are nearby, collection is normal, and nobody is comparing you with a warehouse. Etsy works for the decorative end, with the usual crowding.
The better French niche is restoration and the small-workshop world: parts for old machines, vehicles, shutters, furniture fittings, agricultural oddments. A country with that much old stock has a constant supply of things nobody makes any more. The filter is in what actually sells.
Printing GigTags
Printing GigTags from France
We make GigTag, the QR tag a live musician clamps to a mic stand: the audience scans it to request a song, tip, follow or book them. Every tag is a 3D print, 94 g of PLA and about 3 h 51 m with its clamp, and we pay the person who prints and posts one rather than shipping plastic across the world.
Straight answer first: the tag sells in France today, posted from our printer in the United Kingdom with the postage on the order, and we want a French printer so it is printed and posted at home instead. We pay £9.99 a tag in the UK and the same rate in euros in the euro area, agreed in writing before anything is printed.
There is no fee at any point, no kit to buy and no territory to license. The GigTag franchise page for France has the sum in euros at French prices, what the print needs and the form, in French; the first printer in France who runs the test plate well gets the French orders.
Questions
In France: your questions
Do I need to register to sell 3D prints in France?
For anything regular, yes, and the micro-entrepreneur regime is the usual route: registration is online and free, and charges are a percentage of your actual turnover, so a month with no sales costs nothing. Check service-public.fr for the current rules.
What are the micro-entrepreneur ceilings for 2026?
From 1 January 2026, 203,100 euros for the sale of goods and 83,600 for services, holding through 2028. VAT franchise thresholds are lower, at 85,000 and 37,500. Confirm before relying on them — this was right in October 2026.
Is selling printed objects goods or services?
Selling objects you printed is normally goods; printing to order from someone else's file can be services. It changes your rate and your ceiling, so it is worth settling at registration rather than later.
What is the cheapest way to post 3D prints in France?
Relay points. Mondial Relay and similar networks undercut Colissimo for small parcels and French buyers are used to collecting. For flat items, lettre suivie is cheaper again.
Can I print GigTags in France?
Yes. The tag sells in France and is posted from the UK today, which is the postage and the wait we want to remove. Apply on the GigTag franchise page for France, which has what we pay in euros and what a tag costs to print and post here. No fee, then or ever.
